Wisconsin Man's Anniversary leads to $1M lottery win

MADISON, Wis. — Remembering the date of his anniversary helped a Wisconsin man win a million-dollar lottery jackpot.

The numbers paid off, as he won a jackpot earlier this month. He validated his winning ticket Thursday in Madison.

Lottery officials say Nelson bought a $5 Powerball ticket that won $200,000. Because he also purchased a $1 Power Play bonus, his winnings were multiplied by five.

Nelson accepted his winnings in a lump sum. He collected $672,500 after taxes.

He declined to hold a press conference. Lottery officials say the warehouse worker told them he'll use some of the money for a college fund and to pay some bills, and save the rest.
